Seattle Tabla Institute Mission

Founded in 2009, the Seattle Tabla Institute is a incorporated 501(c) 3 non-profit organization. Our main mission is to encourage and support the art of tabla drumming and Hindustani music through public educational programs and events in the state of Washington.

How was STI founded?

In 2009, a small group of tabla students, teachers, musicians and tabla enthusiasts came together with the idea of creating a learning community in Seattle. In the Spring of 2010 we launched our website, held our first workshops, tabla performance and master class at the University of Washington in Seattle. The majority of our activities, are organized and produced entirely through volunteer hours and other donations. Since 2010, STI has provided thousands of participants with over 25,000 hours of educational music programming.

Who are we?

We are a diverse group of tabla students, musicians of many genres, teachers and other community members.

Some of our annual projects include

  • Weekly Tabla Classes for kids, teens & adults year-round in Seattle, Bellevue & Issaquah
  • Concerts, workshops & Master Classes with master Musicians
  • Adult Tabla Recitals and public performances
  • Annual Youth Tabla Exams for students ages 5-18
